Women’s Strength and Equity; navigating a changing landscape
March is Women’s History Month! Marked by the recognition of International Women’s Day (March 8th), the month invites us to reflect on the progress made as well as the barriers that persist for women worldwide.
Women have been at the forefront of social change, innovation, and advocacy and yet, they continue to face challenges in equity and opportunity.
The Ever-Changing Landscape for Women (in business and beyond)
Recent policy shifts have pulled the rug out from under much of the support systems that women in business, leadership, entrepreneurship, and politics have relied on as impactful contributors.
- Financial advantages have become uncertain or eliminated
- Voting requirements are being debated that will hinder women further
- And women in business have seen structural changes that could be severely detrimental
These changes disproportionately affect women of color, women with disabilities, and those in historically underrepresented and marginalized communities.
Women Need YOUR Support More than Ever
Women are strong and resilient. We will continue to innovate, build, lead, and find new pathways to success. More than ever, they need your help through community support, advocacy, and communal efforts.
Organizations and individuals must stay informed, uplift each other, come together and work towards solutions that promote fairness and access during these ever-changing and disconcerting times.
Developmental Disabilities & Trauma-Informed Support
March is also Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a crucial time to recognize the unique challenges faced by women with developmental disabilities.
Women with developmental disabilities experience higher rates of violence, economic barriers, and difficulties accessing the trauma-informed care and services they need. In our celebration of Women’s Month, we can’t overlook the importance of advocating for inclusive policies, workplace accessibility, and equity for all women.
How We Can Support Women
As we celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women across history and the present day this month, let’s also consider ways in which we can support women and stand in solidarity as we navigate the shifting landscapes together.
“There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.”
– Michelle Obama
- Support women-owned businesses and organizations: Specifically those that prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Amplify the voices of marginalized women: Bring attention to women and raise awareness of what they’re achieving and contributing. Be an advocate for women’s voices.
- Stay educated: Learn about changes in policy and how they impact women and provide resources and education to others too. The more we learn, the more empowered we are.
- Be the change in your workplace and community: Encourage leadership to implement inclusive and trauma-informed practices, services, and systems that support women and marginalized groups
More than a celebration… a month of meaningful action.
As we move through Women’s History Month, let’s celebrate women, cheer women on, raise attention and awareness on all the women in YOUR life are doing, creating, being, and contributing and let’s also commit to taking meaningful action.
It begins with each and every individual coming together to uplift and empower one another.
How are you supporting the women in your community? Have ideas we didn’t share in this blog? We’d love to hear your thoughts and keep the conversation going. Reach out to Trauma Informed Monadnock and be a part of the change HERE.
